CAEL: Canadian Academic English Language Assessment

Test of English Proficiency
In order to provide comprehensive services to international students, Saint John College offers the Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL), an official test of English proficiency for students who wish to apply to UNB or other universities. Students may use their scores on CAEL to prove their abilities in English and to gain admission to most Canadian universities.

• All students who have been accepted to UNB Saint John without submitting an official test of English score will write the CAEL Assessment test at Saint John College when they arrive.

• All students who have been accepted to Saint John College 's EAP program must write the CAEL Assessment Test when they arrive at the college in order to be placed into the appropriate level of the program.

The CAEL Assessment tests students' abilities to use the academic English skills they will require to be successful in university classes that are taught in English such as answering comprehension questions while listening to an academic lecture and writing a short academic essay.

CAEL Assessment results range from band level 10 to band level 90.
