Simon & Li - I just picked up the newspaper this morning and I am disgusted, appalled and ashamed by the photo and article on the harassment and discrimination that the Chinese students have been experiencing.

Please know that for all of the ignorant, prejudiced people we obviously have in Saint John, the majority of Saint Johners welcome immigrants and students from all countries and nationalities. You help to expand our horizons and you bring your rich culture to us.

If there is anything that I can do to ease the pain of the students that have been harassed, please let me know.

Also - yours are the only two email addresses that I have, but please extend my message to the entire Chinese community.

We welcome you with open arms and hope that you will continue to work with us on Dragon Boats and other projects to help combat this prejudice.

Thank you very much for your concern. We, most Chinese students clear know the situation about this crisis. All of us are calm in this difficult period. We believe that most Saint Johners are friendly, and kind just as you said. We will look this crisis out of racism. The reason is that none of us wants to divide Chinese and Canadian into opposite groups. The crisis is terrible. It already created a panic to all Chinese students who walks to campus through University avenue everyday. Some of us who have vehicle will bring friends or any Chinese students who walk to campus when we have classes. The police department of Saint John is doing research on this case and increased the patrol in the University Avenue. Hope these can reduce the possibility that Chinese students be attacked in the future. Represent all Chinese students I here say thank you again for your support. Hopping the dragon boats can bring all Canadians our best wishes.
