1. Who is Jesus?

Jesus is God the Son, who chose to be born and live a human life in order to suffer and die for the sins of those who would trust in him. He arose from the dead and promised eternal life to all who follow him by faith. He is eternal, he is perfect in every way, and all things were created through him.

2. What is the bible?

The Bible is God’s revelation of himself to humanity. God’s Spirit inspired many people to write in a way that accurately tells us about God and about his will for our lives. It is divided into two parts—the “Old Testament” Which was written before Jesus was born, and the “New Testament” which was written after he was born. The Bible was originally written in Hebrew and in Greek, but has been translated into most of the world’s languages. Christians read and study the Bible in roder to know how to live according to God’s
will.

3. What is a church?

A church is a group of Christian people who have made a commitment to God and to one another to work together to carry out the commands of Jesus (to love God and to love our neighbour, and to be witnesses to people in our world).

4. Why go to church?

For Christians, the Bible tells us to assemble together regularly to worship and to encourage one another. In the Bible we learn that all of the early Christians worshipped together regularly. It is a time to worship God, to learn from the Bible, to encourage one another, and to pray together.

5. Who may attend church services?

All worship services at our church are open for everyone—we are glad to have guests and first-time attenders at every service.

6. What do we do in the church on Sunday?

In the worship services on Sunday, the first half of the service is a time of singing several worship songs (words are projected on a screen at the front of the Church), prayers led by the pastors, listening to the choir and/or soloists sing, and receiving the offering. No one needs to sing if they don’t wish to, nor are guests expected to give an offering. The second part of the service is a “sermon”—the pastor explains a part of the Bible and tells how to apply it to daily life. During the sermon, in another room there is an excellent program for children (age 4 to grade 5). For parents, there is also a nursery program for babies and toddlers (to age 3) during the entire service. Also on Sunday morning, there are many “Sunday School” classes—groups that learn together from the Bible. They are grouped by age, with classes for children, for youth, and for adults.

7 . What and why church offering?

Jesus taught his followers to be generous people who give to support the ministry of the Church and to meet the needs of others. Giving our offering is an act of worship (we believe that God is worthy of our offering), it is an act of faith (we believe that God will use our gifts to do his will, and that he will meet our needs when we give), and it is an act of selfless obedience (we believe that giving frees us from the selfishness that wealth can produce in our hearts). The offering supports the weekly ministries of our Church, it supports Christian missions around the world, and it helps people with physical and material needs in our city.

8. What is the difference between Protestant church and Roman Catholic Church?

In the 16th century, many Christians became concerned with things that had become part of the Church that did not agree with the Bible. They chose to base their lives on the authority of scripture (the Bible) and formed what became Protestant Churches. Protestant Churches do not accept the hierarchical authority of the Roman Catholic Church (such as the Pope) nor do they follow the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church which are not based in scripture. For example, Protestants do not venerate Mary or the saints, or pray for those who have died.

9. What and why the Holy Communion?

Communion (or “The Lord’s Supper”) is an ordinance of Christ, which means that Jesus commanded his followers to eat bread and drink from a cup (we drink grape juice) to help us remember his physical body and his shed blood. During the communion service, we remember his suffering and death and give thanks that our sins are forgiven. It is also a time for solemn examination of our lives to see if we need to ask for forgiveness or make changes that would please God. We observe communion on the first Sunday of each month during our worship service.

10. What and why Baptism?

Baptism is the other ordinance for Christians—the other thing that Jesus commanded all of his followers to do. It is a symbol of the death of our old life and the beginning of a new life as a Christian. All who become Christians should be baptized, because it is a public witness that we have chosen to follow Jesus (and Jesus calls people to make a public commitment to follow him). In our Church, people are baptized by immersion—their whole body is immersed under water briefly in the baptistery that is located at the front of
the Church.
