Saint John man, 25, beaten by gang

The Saint John police are looking into a vicious beating Tuesday night.

Police on the scene said a 25-year-old man was accosted by a gang of people on the corner of Ludlow and St. James on the lower west side around 10 p.m.

Police believe a baseball bat or a stick was used in the attack.

Police spokesman Sgt. Pat Bonner said the victim was treated in hospital and later released, but that catching up with those responsible for the assault could be difficult.

"The person that was injured stated that [he] had fallen, however, the injuries were not consistent with a fall. It appears that he was struck by some sort of blunt object."

Bonner said that if the victim doesn't co-operate and more witnesses don't come forward, police don't have much to go on in their search.
