It also depends on your status in your case, r u plaintiff or defendant? because in most of the criminal cases (especially felony), if you are plaintiff (actually you r witness in this situation, the plaintiff is usually the state or provincial prosecutor), your lawyer's capability is very limited or even useless because all the charges are set by the prosecutor instead of your lawyer, but your lawyer can represent you on the hearing in case you don't wanna show up on the court.

I don't think u r a defendant in a criminal case, if unfortunately u r, just find the lawyer and call them ASAP...

Also, if you r a victim in a criminal case, you can get a lawyer for civil compensation...
