[SIZE="3"][COLOR="Red"]The University of New Brunswick Student Union is planning a public demonstration and rally at UNB at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The Day of Action organized by the student body will draw attention to student financial aid concerns.
The UNB group and the New Brunswick Student Alliance are lobbying for a student loan debt cap and a repayment assistance program to replace student financial aid programs.
The average student debt in New Brunswick is $34,000 after four years, according to the UNB student union.
The UNB group held a meeting recently with provincial government officials to reinforce student priorities, said Jon O'Kane, vice-president external for the UNB student union.
"We began a strong working relationship with the office of the deputy minister (of post-secondary education, training and labour) that we hope will foster a venue for student issues to be heard," O'Kane said.
The provincial government has committed to assessing financial aid and implementing long-term plans beginning with the 2009-10 academic year.[/COLOR][/SIZE]
