[SIZE="3"]Police are reminding residents to avoid walking alone late at night after a string of violent robberies around Prospect Street early Wednesday.

Three robberies occurred between 2 a.m.-3 a.m. in the area of the Hilltop Grill and Beverage Co., Wendy's and Parkside Drive.

Police have arrested two adult males and an adult female in connection with all three crimes.

"It is a very rare incident,'' said Sgt. Scott MacKenzie of the Fredericton Police Force on Wednesday. "We are talking about three random attacks, within a very short period of time, within a very short area.

"They were really random and they would be very hard for people to prepare for. But it should be a reminder to always be with a buddy and always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings."

The robberies sent five victims to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital with injuries ranging from minor cuts and bruises to facial lacerations and a possible broken nose.

Two remained in hospital Wednesday and were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No weapons were used in any of the incidents. MacKenzie said physical force was the only factor.

He said the public can rest assured in knowing that there are no suspects outstanding, but admitted the audacity of the crimes was troubling.

"In at least one of the instances, there were two people together walking, so it's disturbing," he said.

"I don't want to scare people by saying if you don't have to walk late at night don't, but definitely show caution."

Coun. Stephen Chase said he was shocked by the news.

He said he had never heard of any criminal incidents resulting in physical injuries occurring on Prospect Street.

"Particularly up in that hill area, there has not been problems like that in the past, so it is shocking and concerning to see something like that," he said.

"I suppose the lesson is even though we live in a safe city, we always have to be vigilant and careful because society is changing and there are elements in society that don't respect personal property or well being."

Fredericton police officers are continuing to investigate the string of robberies.[/SIZE]
