METRO VANCOUVER — An RCMP bomb squad successfully detonated a pipe bomb found at Burnaby's Metrotown Mall Tuesday evening.
Mall security guards called the Mounties just after 3 p.m. after they found the bomb in one of the shopping centre's stairwells, near the Zellers parkade in the south end of the complex.

After determining it was an explosive device, police called in the bomb squad and closed the area to foot and vehicle traffic. SkyTrain service was also cut off due to the close proximity of the bomb.

The bomb squad was able to remove the device from the stairwell and detonate it in a safe location.

The area, with the exception of the immediate crime scene, was reopened after specially trained dogs sniffed the area for more explosives.
The Metrotown bus loop was reopened around 5 p.m. and SkyTrain was back on track shortly after 7:10 p.m.

This is the second time a pipe bomb was found at the shopping centre. A bomb squad was called in to the mall detonate another explosive device in March 2008.

There are no suspects at this time. Investigators remain on scene and police are asking members of the public to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 if they saw anything suspicious prior to 3 p.m. round the stairwell closest to the entrance by the Firefighters Club / Zellers parkade.

不过最近BC省的爆炸案件是比较多呀。

在冬季奥运会来临之前，这类的案件可能会很多。
