[SIZE="3"]The three levels of government in New Brunswick are expected to formally announce today $24 million in funding for drinking water projects in Saint John.

Tourism and Parks Minister Stuart Jamieson says the money will be used for five water pipeline projects and a metering program that will monitor water flows and test for leaks.

Today's announcement will mark a major milestone in the city's bid to replace its antiquated water treatment and distribution system.

Next month, a consultant is expected to file a report with the city that will recommend the site of the first water treatment plant.

The federal funding announcements come amid speculation of a fall election.[/SIZE]
