Fredericton police are looking for the driver of a car who fled the scene after a woman in a motorized wheelchair died following a hit-and-run collision over the weekend.
Dianne Trottier, 33, who worked for CBC News, was crossing the intersection at Regent and Beaverbrook streets late Saturday night when she was hit.
Trottier suffered serious injuries from the accident and later died in hospital, police said.
Cpl. Tim Powers said the driver, or anyone with information about the crash, should immediately contact police.
"We do believe that the driver of this motor vehicle is aware that they were involved in some type of collision. And obviously at this time, it is a criminal investigation," Powers said.
Powers said a witness has told them the car was likely a four-door and was dark in colour.
He said the front end would be substantially damaged from hitting the motorized wheelchair that Trottier was using.
Trottier was working in Fredericton although she was permanently based in Toronto.
"Even if you didn’t know Dianne personally, you couldn't help but admire her tenacity and spirit," said Jennifer McGuire, the general manager and editor in chief of CBC News in an email to staff on Monday. "Her determination got her through many challenges in life."
When she wasn't working, Trottier played left wing for the Toronto Lake Raiders in the Toronto Wheelchair Hockey League.
