[SIZE="3"]A weekend act of vandalism in North End Halifax has renewed calls for a curfew in HRM.

Vandals torched the playground outside of St Stephen's school causing extensive damage Saturday night.

"You're darn right there should be a curfew and it should be enforced, and then we wouldn't have all these problems," says area Councillor Jerry Blumenthal.

"It's not just this area, there's all kinds of parks are getting vandalized because of young kids, teenagers who get out at one and two in the morning."

He says it is especially frustrating because the community raised $200,000 to have the playground built.

Blumenthal sees the issue as a parenting problem.

"Young kids, one and two o'clock in the morning. Now who are the parents? Why aren't they involved with their children?" Blumenthal asks.

"How can they let their children out so late at night."

But he also thinks there needs to be more police visibility in problem areas and more citizen involvement in keeping an eye on things
