2010年圣约翰第一起枪击案

While few in a north end neighbourhood would discuss a drive-by shooting that occurred Sunday, the incident has left one neighbour worried about her children and grandchildren.

Kelly Moore said Monday she learned about the shooting at 72 Belleview Ave. later that morning when police knocked on her door. The shooting happened at 6:42 a.m.

The window next to the front door at 72 Belleview Ave. remains shattered Monday after a drive-by shooting Sunday morning on the street that overlooks Shamrock Park.

"My concern is that I do have children here," Moore said. "It does make me nervous."

Moore was hesitant to talk. She has no idea what may have what led to Sunday's events or who lives at the little bluish-grey house down the street.

"I didn't hear anything."

Others neighbours expressed the same worry but didn't want to be quoted.

The tiny street that overlooks Shamrock Park is a mix of well-kept properties and ramshackle buildings.

Outside the house where the shooting occurred, a man wearing a baseball cap and green jacket rooted around in the back seat of a car on Monday afternoon.

"I have nothing to say to you people," he said.

He soon disappeared through the front door of 72 Belleview. In the front window next to the door, the glass remained shattered and something had pockmarked the metal frame. The projectile narrowly missed a sign warning people the house had an alarm system.

Bill Garfield lives next door. He wouldn't comment on the shooting or the events at the house.

"That's the most cop cars I've seen going by here," Garfield said. "To me, it's a forgotten street."

The police and city hall, Garfield said, forget the out-of-the-way street is part of Saint John and deserves the same services and protection.

In provincial court Monday, Peter Seale, 38, of Metcalf Street, pleaded not guilty to indictable counts of using a weapon - a shotgun - while committing assault on a female and of using a firearm while committing an indictable offence. He elected the jurisdiction of provincial court prior to entering his pleas. No details of either charge were provided in court.

When Crown prosecutor Lucie Mathurin objected to Seale's release, duty counsel Wes McIntosh requested a bail hearing.

Seale was remanded into custody and will return to court today for his bail hearing.

Sgt. Pat Bonner of the Saint John Police Force said the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

"He didn't leave his car," Bonner said of the shooter.
