St. John River水位上升

精选回复

Water levels are rising along New Brunswick's St. John River basin, although dry weather forecast for the next few days is expected to keep the situation under control.

River Watch, a provincial government organization, stated in its latest advisory that recent rainfall and warm temperatures being felt across the province are melting snow and increasing water levels earlier than usual.

The snowmelt is expected to continue because of the above-freezing temperatures that are being forecast for the next three days.

But Karl Wilmot, the River Watch co-ordinator, said the river's levels are not expected to rise substantially because there is no rain in the forecast for the next couple of days.

"What people should be is consulting their own benchmarks that they've probably put in place from prior experience and acting accordingly in relation to their personal belongings and basements and that type of thing," Wilmot said.

Wilmot said people living near streams, tributaries and rivers should pay close attention to water levels.

He said the levels of water are weather dependent and should be monitored on a day-to-day basis.

People living along the St. John River and its tributaries have become familiar with watching its levels rise during the spring. Communities along the river have seen serious flooding in the last two years.
