再度发生 圣约翰

精选回复

Police in Saint John are investigating another case of disturbing vandalism in the city.

A racial slur was found scrawled on a car on Riverview Drive Monday morning, just weeks after swastikas were spray-painted on a vehicle and a church's community centre in the same part of the city.

Sgt. Pat Bonner said police investigators do not believe the two incidents are connected.

Margret Begner, whose car was vandalized in the incident last month, said she considered the swastika an attack on her German roots. She and her husband immigrated to New Brunswick from Germany in 1992.

A Saint John multicultural group said even if the incidents are isolated, it is clear more needs to be done to promote inclusion in the city.

"I find it's extremely frustrating for things to be said or written," said Judy Eatmon, programs director with PRUDE (Pride, Race, Unity, Dignity, Education).

"If anything, we need to step up to the plate with support for these people that had these things happen and we need to be very vigilant to make sure someone is on top of this and it doesn't happen again."

Anyone with information on either crime is asked to call Saint John police or Crime Stoppers.
