Saint John teen faces charges after fatal crash

A Saint John teen is facing charges after a car crash last summer that killed a 15-year-old girl.

Family and friends of teenagers involved in the fatal car crash packed a Saint John courtroom on Tuesday morning.

Nicholas Pike, 19, was charged with impaired driving causing death and with dangerous driving causing death.

Pike is accused of driving a car that plunged over a nine-metre embankment on June 26.

Kylee Wallace, 15, was one of six people in the car and the Grade 10 student from Saint John High was thrown from the vehicle and died of her injuries.

Raylene Wallace, the girl's mother, said it was difficult to hear the charges read.

"My heart goes out to everybody in this situation. There are no winners in this situation, Kylee isn't winning, the young man isn't winning, no one is winning," Wallace said.

"So it was just really emotional to see everyone there and see the other side there, it's difficult. I'm not without a heart, I feel bad for everybody."

The teens had been celebrating the end of the school year and Wallace was catching a ride home.

David Lutz, the defence lawyer, asked for an adjournment before Pike enters a plea.

Pike is due back in court on Jan. 10.

Along with the various friends and family members in attendance on Tuesday, Karen Dunham, a victim services representative with the Saint John chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Canada, showed up at the courtroom to offer support.

"The courtroom at the holiday season is a difficult time and the journey is tough and long and we're here with suggestions that can help them get through
