我昨日收到Canada Revenue Agency (St. John's, NL)的信，说我从09年7月到11年6月间，共欠税 GST/HSTC Credit $436.00，请问有朋友遇到过类似的情况么？
我是master degree，也没有工作，没有收入，我也会欠税么？
请问有朋友知道该怎么办的么？谢谢了

It is quite simple. Just call them to ask details. Otherwise, nobody knows what exactly happened to you. Actually, I am confused by your words. In every year you should receive a summary statement right after they handle your tax report. You never read that form before? Further, I suspect that you did not fill some tax forms correctly. This happened to me before.

Go to Financial Office in UNB. They might be able to help you.

Also, try go to HR block. They provide services to students at a very low price.

你确定税务局让你补税？credit好像是他们欠你钱。

有没有你不认为是收入的进项，如奖学金？无论什么名义，只要是进到你帐上的钱，都必须申报。

最好的办法是问税务局，比我们在这里猜有用得多。问清楚到底谁欠谁。

It's called Notice of Assesment, you only get NOA if you fill your tax, and quite honestly even you don't have any income you should still consider to do your tax, for the sake of all the potential returns and non-refundable tax credits.

For one, I was simply pointing out "the form" you referred to has a proper name, and that's "notice of assessment"; For two, I wasn't trying to "explain" anything to you, as matter of a fact I wasn't even talking to you ( no offence), the man had a question, so I share my part of the answer, that's all.

And by the way, the gentleman before was right, "CREDIT" means CRA owes you money, so CRA is paying you that $460 versus the other way around. It's the same as your credit card statement, if the blance is showing -$xxx.xx, that means the credit card company owes you that much money, you simply over paid your credit card bill.

I see. Since in your last post you quoted my words, so I simply thought you want to talk to me and explain something to me. OK, anyway, maybe I am too sensitive :) I hate the tax stuff very much. I do not feel the rules for the tax are very fair. For example, last year the government decided to collect the tax on the postdoctoral fellowship. Before last year, this fellowship is viewed as one kind of scholarship which is tax-free. The official explaination of government is that the postdocs are like the articling students or new MD students, etc. But the truth is not like this. Personaly the only reason I can imagine is the government needs money. This decision leads the postdocs even earn less than the phd students. It is ridiculous, isn't it?

同意小鹏兄说的。CREDIT是CRA欠你的，以后会pay back你。
